Women’s Football

The Scottish Women’s Football Association was formed in 1972, when four teams met and decided to form an Association. The Association consists of the following:

  • 1 Senior league – with one national league, and divisional leagues, giving a total of over 30 teams from as far as Inverness to Ayr.
  • U13 and U16 leagues in NE Scotland, West of Scotland, Lothian, Tayside and Aberdeen.
  • Development Centres are open to girls at U13, U16 and U18 nationwide.

Plus over 80 registered schools who participate in an annual regional festival.

To date the SFA have in the region of 4000 players registered with SWF.

Women’s football is looked upon as one of the major growth sports not only in Scotland but all over the world, and it is accepted that the above numbers should increase drastically over the next few years.
