LEGENDARY FIGURES
Henrik Larsson: The Swedish striker who became a Celtic Legend and spent 7 Years at Parkhead helping the club to the UEFA Cup Final. He then joined Barcelona and won the Champions League with the Spanish Giants.
Davie Cooper: Clydebank, Motherwell and Rangers Legend who had one of the best left peg in the game. Died at a young age but has left a lasting impression on all three clubs that he had played for as well as opponents.
Dave MacKay: Hearts Stalwart and Captain of Heart’s Greatest Team is profiled by our resident Hearts Fan Mike Smith.
Jock Stein: Celtic’s Greatest Ever Manager and one of the Greatest Scottish Managers of all time. He was instrumental in the resurgence of Celtic in the 1960s and managed the famous Lisbon Lions to European Glory in 1967. He then managed Scotland and sadly died down in Cardiff after Scotland had qualified for the World Cup, 1986.
Ronnie Simpson: One of Celtic’s Greatest Goalkeepers ever and one of the famous Lisbon Lions and a member of the Scotland 1967 side that beat the English World Cup Champions down in Wembley a year fater the English victory.
Joe McBride: With 86 goals in 94 appearances McBride is the second most deadly striker in Celtic’s history. Jimmy McGrory considered McBride to be the best striker he had ever seen in the Green and White hoops. Yet his Celtic story is tinged with sadness.
John Robertson – Mike Smith our resident Jambo takes a look at the Tynecastle legend that is John Robertson.
Walter Smith – We profile Rangers and former Scotland manager Walter Smith. When we profiled him it was back in his days as Scotland manager.
Rose Reilly – The wee Lassie from Stewarton, Ayrshire who went on to play for AC Milan and Captain the Italian Women’s National side to World Cup Glory in 1983.
Billy Bremner - The midfield powerhouse that drove Don Revie’s Leeds United side. The tough tackling and uncomprising Scot played an integral part in the rival of Scottish International football playing in the 3-2 victory over World Champions England in 1967 at Wembley.
David Narey – The workhorse of Jim McLean’s Dundee United team that won the League in 1983, and made it all the way to the UEFA Cup Final in 1987. If you looked up the definition of Legend, David Narey would be in there.
Bob Crampsey – The Voice and the authority on Scottish Football.
Joe Jordan – We profile the former Leeds and Scotland forward and member of the Scottish Football Hall of Fame.
Denis Law – We profile the Manchester City, United and Scotland legend nicknamed The Lawman.
LEGENDARY TEAMS
1967 Lisbon Lions: The story of Celtic’s Greatest Ever team. The first British team and the only Scotland team to win the European Cup. Beating the mighty Inter Milan, they did it by playing attacking and inventive football.
1972 Barcelona: The story of the Rangers team that won the European Cup Winners Cup in Barcelona, 1972. However rather than being a celebration, a mass pitch invasion overshadowed the match resulting in the club being banned from defending their title the following year.
1983 Gothenburg: The story of how Alex Ferguson and Aberdeen conquered Europe in the Cup Winners Cup beating Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Dundee United 1986-87: The story of Jim McLean’s Dundee United side who went all the way to the UEFA Cup Final of 1987, after beating the likes of Barcelona, Lens and Borussia Moechengladbach only to lose at the last hurdle to IFK Gothenburg 2-1 on aggregate in the Final.
The Famous Five: This attacking pentad of Gordon Smith, Bobby Johnstone, Willie Ormond, Lawrie Reilly and Eddie Turnbull combined fast movement and quick interchanging of position to pioneer a new style and formation based on attacking guile that was to bring the club its most successful era and influence the football philosophers of the day.
Raith Rovers 1995: When the wee side from Kirkaldy took on the mighty Bayern Munich.
