Trezeguet to Rangers for £8 million – your kidding right??

rangersOne of the most ludicrous and outlandish transfer rumours that I have heard, has surfaced in the Official Channel 4 Football Italia website, linking Rangers with an £8 million bid for Juventus and French striker David Trezeguet. They state that, “Italian reports revealed that Rangers are ready to offer £8m for the Frenchman. Trezegol has been set to move for a while now and the Bianconeri are more than willing to cash in on him.”

It continues, “The former Monaco player earns around £4m per season and that at the age of 31 his market value can only decrease, sporting director Alessio Secco would be delighted to offload him before the new campaign starts. However, it will have to be seen whether the Bianconeri No 17 would accept to join a relatively minor club. Olympique Lyon, Barcelona and Milan have all been after the player so it is more than understandable if David ends up turning down the Scottish team.

“Meanwhile, reports suggest Bayern Munich have also enquired about him and the French ace will no doubt consider a move to the Allianz Arena before Ibrox.”

It must be one of the most idiotic rumours that I have heard in a long time. Not because Rangers are linked with a player, but that they think the Ibrox club under Sir David Murray will splash such a huge fee on one player – especially after the donkey that was – Tore Andre Flo – who was signed for £12 million.

It must have been a very very slow day in Italy, and especially the Channel 4 Football Italia news desk. Or is it April Fool’s Day?

    No deal?

Anyway, “donkey” Flo (38 goals in 72 games) was sold to Sunderland for the same £8 million you’re scoffing at.

Souness, Butcher, Mojo, Mikhailichenko, Laudrup, Thern, Cannigia, Gascoigne MoJo and the De Boers were bigger transfer stories, so you never know, but the fee isn’t likely- although that could be wrong.

Flo might have been sold for £8 million but he cost £12 million and despite his scoring record/games played that is still a loss of £4 million – if he was such a big success why was he not worth more to Murray and co??

In all honesty Caniggia, and the De Boers were not at their peak and came at a time in their careers where they were close to ending their playing career and not in their peak. Trezeuget while past his peak – will not join Rangers even if they had the £8 million to pay for the transfer fee – which they don’t – and they would never pay £30,000 a week for a 31 year old striker either.

your correct with most of what you say editor although the 1st De Boer Rangers signed was a success IMHO.

  9. Editor on Fri, 10th Jul 2009 12:02 am

aye but he was well passed his peak danny. He was still a success for Rangers on the pitch but he certainly wasn’t at his best otherwise Barcelona – if I remember correcty – would not have let him go wno would they?

rangers wont be paying 8m for any player, they will offload anyone they can to get the bank off their back. Thiis is just the laptop loyal trying to take the shine off CELTICs new signings. They even printed a 20 year old story from a failed manager to try and gee up the rangers fans.

why not watch de boer during our fantastic treble season, and tell us he was past his best. He was outstanding that season and wouldn’t have looked out of place at most clubs in europe.

Sorry to disagree with you chris – he may have had a fantastic season during the treble win – but he was past his best – he was not playing at his peak, which was when he was with Ajax & Barcelona. In all honesty if he was at his peak and a world class player he would have continued playing at Barca or another European giant -not Rangers.

As I have said before, he was a great signing for Rangers but he was definately past his prime when he signed up at Ibrox. Likewise with is brother later on.

Read this yesterday on the C4 Football Italia website and almost choked on my linguine…
Smith announced on Monday that “all the squad are still for sale” with no money to spend at Ibrox, so for us to be linked to a 31 year old Juve player for £8m is complete nonsense.
I think Timmy has a job for the Football Italia website and is winding up the good people of Glasgow with this one…

Dominic – when you say “take the shine off” your new signings, is this the floodlight glare bouncing off their gleaming barnets? Or is it the fact you’ve paid £4m for a complete dud? Welcome to our world mate.
Mowbray has a great record of getting almost everybody he is in charge of relegated, and the fact he is chasing all his ex-players from West Brom shows the ambition he has to try again with failures that have served him well in the past!

  14. Editor on Fri, 10th Jul 2009 9:51 am

almost everybody? he has managed what two clubs? Hibs and West Brom. Only West Brom were relegated and he did well with Hibs didn’t he? Although managing Celtic is a totally different kettle of fish.

You state that Fortune is a dud you may be right – he may not be worth £3.8 million that Celtic paid for him – but you never know he might be a hit in the SPL we will all have to wait and see. It is very different playing in the EPL against the likes of John Terry, Jamie Carragher and Rio Ferdinand to playing in the SPL against the likes of Davie Weir, Lee Wilkie and Andy Considine isn’t it?

  15. Dominic on Fri, 10th Jul 2009 1:12 pm

Broxys maw you say Fortune is a complete dud, I remember Henrick and Lubo being labelled the same before anyone saw them so we will just have to see how good he is and 4m for a player is small potatoes in the current market.
My point was that rangers are signing nobody never mind 8m. You might pick up a bosman if you manage to offload any of your duds. Pity souness isnt with any team as he would probably give you 10m for ferguson.

  16. jim on Fri, 10th Jul 2009 6:43 pm

are we talkin about the same duds that won the league aye ok then

  17. Editor on Fri, 10th Jul 2009 6:55 pm

@jim – have to agree though jim – that rangers side last season was poor compared to other past gers teams. Not to say that the Celtic team was any better given their performances also.

Both sides were very poor and made other SPL clubs better than what they actually were with their performancs.

Hopefully next season will be a hell of a lot better More attacking football, flair, skill, 50-5 tackles, players fighting for the ball, playing for the fans/the club and not the paycheck.

  18. Dominic on Fri, 10th Jul 2009 11:30 pm

Aye Jim the same duds that won the league and the same duds that wont retain it.

  19. ScullyBear on Sat, 11th Jul 2009 11:54 am

  20. Dominic on Sat, 11th Jul 2009 1:27 pm

Your right Scullybear im not very good but your lot are signing naebody. Just please yourself with 20 year old stories from failed managers and supposed stories from bill mcmurdo.
