Despite winning the SPL title and with that a guaranteed £10 million in the ibrox coffers, Rangers boss Walter Smith has admitted that every player at the Ibrox club is still up for sale in the summer. It has been known for some time that the club has around £25 million worth of debt and in January the club revealed that they could be forced to sell kep personnel in a bid to balance the books, despite a bid being accepted for Kris Boyd no player left the club, and the situation in regards to the clubs finances have not changed either. Why? The debt is still there, there is no revenue from tv rights coming in at the moment, and the £10 million from Champions League money is not in the bank – it doesn’t reach the coffers until the end of the season. Despite the Rangers fans hoping that a number of their top stars would not be sold off after securing the Leage & Cup double, along with Champions League qualification to the group stages – it will come as a blow to those loyal fans who hoped that the club would strengthen in the summer.
Smith said, “What happened in January is still there. Every player is susceptible to a bid. We told them circumstances meant we had to sell a player and we’re still in that situation. I know there’s a feelgood factor after winning the double but this doesn’t go away. Yes, it’s far less of a problem than in January. But the problem most teams out of the big leagues have is still at Rangers’ door.”
Smith also revealed there will be no major signings ahead of the new campaign either. He added, “We won’t be spending a lot on players just because we’re in the Champions League. We still have to be prudent.”
And with the emphasis now looking on bringing through the youth into the ranks, it is time for the Ibrox youngsters to step up to the mark, even if their manager is not renowned for bringing through and nurturing youth at the club.

There has been a fair amount of hysteria about this but there’s nothing sensational really. Just about every player in the world is for sale – even Man U sold their best player. And as Walter points out the situation is much better than it was in January. Moreover in today’s Daily Express a club spokesman points out that reports of a “fire sale” are well wide of the mark – though there are obviously some players the club would like to move on.

True george – we never stated that a fire sale would occur – but reports have stated previously that the club have to get shot of the fringe players like Charlie Adam, Alan Gow etc if they are to bring anyone in. However I don’t doubt that if offers came in for Bougherra, McGregor, Ferguson, Davis and Boyd that were around the ball park figure of what the club are looking for if not willing to talk then they would accept it. Doubt bids will come in for all the players, but I expect one or two to be head hunted by clubs down south.
As the phrase goes ‘every player has his price’ yet the state of the clubs finances determine whether it is a high price such as £9 million or a low price of around £4 million.

I am amazed there is nobody out there who wants to invest in Rangers,IMHO they could get them @ very good price.BTW George whos the club spokesperson most likely the journalist just made up a story as they do?

danny you fail to grasp something – whether the club spokesperson or web reporter is a journalist or not does not matter – they do not make up stories – they are TOLD what to write by their club. These people are not employed with the likes of the record or the sun etc, but they probably have worked in the media for sometime.
And btw if a journalist working for the club website or newspaper that is untrue or makes up quotes from the manager – which the article has btw – then they are liable to get the sack. While I guess you have a sheer hatred for journos for one reason or another – they are all working for employers that give them guidelines to follow. Club journos do the bidding of the club while newspaper journos working for the likes of the sun and the record work to increase readership – and the best way to do that is to court controversy. You stillneed to realise the difference between a club journo and a mainstream/newspaper hack mate.
