Celtic in £3 million link with Derby’s Kris Commons

celticCeltic have reportedly been linked with a £3 million move for Derby winger Kris Commons. The Scotland international has been in fine form for both club and country, and has caught the eye of new manager Tony Mowbray.

However it appears that the Daily Express has jumped the gun, as Rams Chairman, Adam Pearson, said, “We have heard nothing from Celtic and can only presume it is speculation. Kris is an important member of the team.”

Derby have always said that it would take an offer of ’silly’ money for them to consider selling Commons.

Depsite Mowbray’s rebuilding plans at Celtic, I doubt the club will pay anything over £4 million for a single player in the current climate. But rebuilding must be done and the players in place before the club’s qualification rounds in the Champions League. To not make the group stages of the competition, will be a major failure on the part of the Parkhead club and they must ot make the same mistakes as what their rivals Rangers had done last season against Lithuanian minnows FBK Kaunas.

Not getting to the Champions league wouldn’t be either a failure or disaster as long as we win the 1st qualifier. A season in the Europa League where we could get a decent run would be no bad thing.

It would be a major failure Dave – Celtic would stand to lose at least £10 million in revenue including share of tv revenue, ticket sales etc. While a run in the Europa League would be great – like back in 2003 Seville in the UEFA Cup – that run and Rangers run in 2007 proved that even making the final of the UEFA Cup would not match the money you would receive just by reaching the Group stages of the Champions League.

European football is European Football but Champions League football is the pinnacle in Europe and for Celtic it is a MUST to qualify.

Absolute bunkum editor. A run in the Europa league would improve the coefficient and swell the coffers ample enough.
A MUST? No it’s not. The club has enough financial stability for co-efficient to be of equal importance to the difference between Europa league and run vs champions league qualification.

sorry editor your talking absolute balderdash Dave is correct would not be that much of a financial disaster if Celtic have decent run in europa.

a decent run in the europa league does not even come close to reaching the group stages of the champions league danny – the priority is making it to the champions league group stages. If Celtic don’t and drop into the Europa League it is a failure. Despite Celtic not necessarily needing the money because of the lack of a sizeabledebt unlike rangers – the fact is the club still needs the money from the Champions league and to attract the players needed for celtic to progress in europe.
