Scotland International striker Steven Fletcher has left Easter Road and signed a four year deal with Burnley, after passing a medical with the newly promoted EPL side. Burnley have broken their transfer record to snap up Fletcher in a £3 million deal plus add-ons, which could see the overall fee reach £3.5 million.
Hibs manager John Hughes had previously hoped Fletcher would commit to the club long term. However, the striker had been vocal in his desire to further his career in England’s top flight. Celtic had also been linked with a move for the 22-year-old, who has four years of his Hibs contract to run. But they failed to land Fletcher in January, despite making what they described were “substantial offers” for the Scotland international.
Fletcher, who has four full caps for Scotland, scored 52 goals in nearly 190 appearances for the Easter Road outfit, but he is just another in a line of players to establish themselves with the Easter Road club, only to seek pasture new. He will now link up with fellow Scots Owen Coyle, Graham Alexander, Steven Caldwell and Stephen Thompson at Turfmoor, for a crack at the English Premier League.
