transferSunderland are reportedly going to make a £5 million bid for Rangers midfielder Steven Davis to bring him back to the English Premier League. Falkirk have cut two more players from the squad, making a total of nine players to bite the bullet since Eddie May has taken over at the club, plus some transfer shorts.

Sunderland in bid to sign Rangers midfielder Steven Davis

Sunderland are rumoured to be ready to offer Rangers £5 million for the services of midfielder Steven Davis. New Black Cats boss Steve Bruce, has cash to spend and wants to add to his squad. He sees Davis, as a key player in revitalising a midfield that almost got Sunderland relegated. The Northern Ireland internationalist moved to Ibrox for £3m last summer and scored six goals as Walter Smith’s side clinched a league and cup double. But Rangersers will not be able to refuse a big offer for any of their players, as they still have a sizeable debt reportedly around £25 million.

Falkirk cut more from the playing staff

Steve Lovell and Gerard Aafjes are among the latest players to leave Falkirk as new manager Eddie May continues to make changes to his side. Lovell has been told he will not be offered a new deal, while has decided to remain in his homeland Holland for family reasons. The Bairns have let a number of players leave the club since May took control of the first team squad.

Dean Holden has signed for Shrewsbury and Michael Higdon has joined St Mirren. Patrick Cregg and goalkeeper Dani Mallo have been strongly linked with Hibs, while Kevin McBride, Mark Staunton and Scott Gibb have also been told they can leave.

Transfer Shorts

Motherwell keeper Graeme Smith is on the verge of signing for Brighton on a £2,000-per-week deal. And it looks like Motherwel are continuing to flog their top assets as defender Paul Quinn is set to seal a move to Cardiff City if the clubs can agree a fee. This comes a day after the Fir Park outfit accepting a bid from Bristol Ciy for top scorer David Clarkson.

French fitness coach Gregory Dupont has quit Celtic to return to Ligue 1 outfit Lille.

St. Mirren striker Craig Dargo has agreed a new two-year deal with St Mirren, but uncertainty over an SPL TV deal has cost team-mate Gary Mason. Gus MacPherson had hoped to extend his contract, but the loss of television cash from Setanta led to a budget reduction and Saints were forced to withdraw their offer to him.
