celticScottish Television have reported that Celtic have had a £2.5 million bid for Nancy striker Marc Antoine Fortune accepted, and both parties will meet this week for talks on personal terms. Fortune is new Hoops manager Tony Mowbray’s first transfer target, and he’s keen to resume the relationship that he built up with the forward at West Brom last season. However Mowbray must beat off competition from Fulham, Hull, Wolves and Portsmouth who are also interested in the player and who could offer far more in terms of wages.

But although there is Premier League football on the table, Fortune has indicated that Celtic is a definite contender for his services next season. His agent Michael Manuello said, “We will talk with Celtic at the end of the week and see what is on offer financially. We will talk with everyone over the next ten days. I have to meet everyone and see what is on offer financially, after that we will choose. Celtic is definitely an option Marc will consider. His relationship with Tony Mowbray at West Brom was wonderful. It would be very exciting. The two men would like to work together again.

“But we will have to see what is on offer financially,” he added. “It is true though that Celtic would be a big club for Marc at this stage of his career. Nancy have accepted a bid and the player will definitely move from there, that’s for sure.”

If it is purely down to financial issues, then Celtic will not be able to match terms offered by the English Premier League clubs, however the working relationship between Mowbray and Fortune in the past could possibly swing it for Celtic, as would the chance to play in the Champions League, if Celtic manage to qualify for the group stages that is.

They are not always the first to break news of signings Chris – however by your reasoning this must be true:

    FAIL!!!!

Celtic look set to be priced out of the race to sign Marc-Antoine Fortuné after Nancy accepted offers from three English clubs.

The new Celtic manager, Tony Mowbray, had targeted the striker after he impressed during a loan spell at his former club West Bromwich Albion last season. But Celtic will need to produce an offer of around £3.5m to stop him moving to the Premier League.

The Hull City manager, Phil Brown, has confirmed having negotiations with Nancy, while Portsmouth, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fulham have also been linked with the player.

Nancy’s sporting director, Nicolas Holveck, said: “We have accepted three separate offers, all from English clubs. All are in excess of €4m [£3.4m] and, with add-ons, one is approaching the five-million mark.

“We are happy to allow the player to begin negotiations with these clubs and we expect the transfer to be formalised by Monday. It’s still possible he could move to Celtic but they have yet to make an acceptable offer.”

And as we stated in the article, Celtic would be hard pushed to match the wages etc on offer at the EPL clubs – so its not surprising that the guy is more than likely heading to the EPL and not Celtic Park.
